Class T-shirt design ideas for your school or CCA

Six front and back layouts to discuss with your class or CCA before you ask for a quote, and what to get approved first.

The six drawings are generic illustrations: not to scale, not past orders and not ready to print files. OURCLASS, CREW26, NAME and 00 are placeholders. We confirm garment, artwork, positions and method when we quote.

What your class should decide first

  • What should lead: a class name, a year, a symbol or the CCA.
  • Which side: front, back, or a small mark on one with the main design on the other.
  • Colours: shirt and ink chosen as a pair.
  • Details: identical shirts, or a request for names or numbers.
  • Approval: who at school signs the design off.

Six layouts to discuss

1. A small front mark with a larger back motif

Concept 1, a small front mark with a larger back motifFront and back of a white crew neck tee. The front has one small round mark on the left chest. The back has one large round motif in the middle, with the placeholder word OURCLASS below it. Not to scale.FrontOURCLASSBack
Front: small chest mark. Back: larger motif and class word.

The front stays tidy enough to wear again, and the back carries the design people see in a group photo. Keep the motif below the collar and above the hem, in the same colours as the front.

2. A simple class wordmark

Concept 2, a simple class wordmark across the chestFront and back of a white crew neck tee. The front carries the placeholder word OURCLASS in one bold typeface across the chest. The back is left plain. Not to scale.OURCLASSFrontBack
Front: class name in one typeface. Back: plain.

Just the class name in one bold typeface. Choose letters that read from a few metres away, avoid thin script at chest size, and check the spelling and capitals with the whole class.

3. Class year typography on a dark shirt

Concept 3, class year typography on a dark shirtFront and back of a dark crew neck tee with light yellow artwork. The front has a small placeholder C26 on the left chest. The back has the words CLASS OF above large numerals 26. Not to scale.C26FrontCLASS OF26Back
Front: small year mark. Back: CLASS OF and large numerals.

The year does the work: large numerals read from across a hall. The drawing also shows contrast: light ink on a dark shirt reads better than two similar tones such as grey on navy.

4. Approved names and numbers on the back

Concept 4, a shared front mark with a name and number on the backFront and back of a white crew neck tee. The front has one small shared mark on the left chest. The back has the placeholder NAME on a line below the collar and a large placeholder number 00 below it. Not to scale.FrontNAME00Back
Front: shared mark. Back: placeholder name and number.

Treat individual names or numbers as a request, not a standard feature: tick the option on the quote form, and we confirm what is possible on your garment and method, and the effect on the quote. Check every spelling, and that your school agrees to students' names being printed.

5. One shared symbol, used twice

Concept 5, one shared symbol used large on the front and small on the backFront and back of a white crew neck tee. The front has one hexagon symbol in the middle of the chest. The back repeats the same hexagon, much smaller, just below the collar. Not to scale.FrontBack
Front: one large symbol. Back: the same symbol, small.

One shape the class chooses together, large on the front and small on the back. Bold shapes stay recognisable when shrunk; fine lines and tiny text do not. Draw your own rather than borrowing a character or another organisation's logo.

6. A CCA or event identity

Concept 6, a CCA or event identityFront and back of a white crew neck tee. The front has the placeholder CREW26 on the left chest. The back has a wide yellow band carrying CREW26, with the placeholder words CCA EVENT below. Not to scale.CREW26FrontCREW26CCA EVENTBack
Front: short identity. Back: colour band with group and event.

For a CCA, camp or sports day, the group or event can lead, with a band of colour to make the back stand out. If the shirt is for sport, compare fabrics in cotton or dri-fit for class tees before choosing colours.

Contrast, size and placement

  • Contrast. Choose inks that stand apart from the shirt, and judge colour references against the actual blank.
  • Size. Check the design at printed size; thin lines and small text in a chest mark can blur.
  • Placement. Keep artwork clear of the collar, seams and hem. Our class T-shirt printing page lists the quote form's print position sizes.
  • Colours. For methods such as silkscreen, more colours can affect the quote.

Get the design approved at school

Each school sets its own rules for class T-shirts. As one published example, Damai Secondary School's 2026 student handbook (PDF) requires permission for class T-shirt designs and limits when they may be worn. Your school may differ, so ask your teacher in charge what needs approval, including any school name, crest or logo, before you confirm artwork. Our print file check is not permission to use a logo.

When your class has chosen

Plan the order on our class T-shirt printing page, prepare files with the artwork checklist and collect sizes against the size charts. Then send the layout, artwork, garment and sizes on the quote form or WhatsApp.

Class design FAQ

Designing a class T-shirt

picked a layout?

Send the layout and your artwork or sketch. Plan the order on class T-shirts.

Ask on WhatsApp Quote form
Can we use one of these layouts for our class T-shirt?

Yes, as a starting point. They are generic illustrations, not past orders or print files, so adapt the words, symbol and colours and send your own artwork or a sketch for a quote.

Can each class T-shirt have a different name or number?

You can ask for individual names, numbers or both on our quote form. We confirm what is possible on your garment and method and how it affects the quote. Check that your school agrees to students' names being printed.

Does a class T-shirt design need school approval?

It depends on the school, so ask your teacher in charge. Get the final design approved before you confirm artwork, especially if it uses the school name, crest or logo.

Should the main class design go on the front or the back?

Either works. One option is a small front mark with the main design on the back, where it shows in group photos. Keep the other side simple.
